Alan J. KaplanFounder and CEO
Alan launched Kaplan Partners in 1994 after beginning his corporate banking career with First Pennsylvania Bank and Meritor/PSFS. Since then he has built Kaplan Partners into a nationally recognized boutique executive search and talent advisory firm. Kaplan Partners has been named five times to the Philadelphia 100 as one of the region’s fastest-growing private companies and is a member of The Philadelphia 100 Hall of Fame.
Industry associations and the media regularly turn to Alan for his opinions on leadership and talent issues and trends. He hosts KYW News Radio’s Career Report, a weekly business commentary on leadership and career management, and served as a columnist for SmartCEO Magazine. He has also been a guest columnist for the Philadelphia Business Journal, Smart Business Now, ABA Community Banker Magazine, PA Banker, and NY Banker, and is a frequent speaker at national and regional industry conferences.
Alan serves on the Board of Directors of the Greater Philadelphia Chamber of Commerce, the National Association of Corporate Directors Philadelphia Chapter, and on the Temple University Fox School of Business Dean’s Advisory Council. He previously served as an Advisory Director of Penn Liberty Bank before its’ sale to WSFS Bank. In addition, Alan is a member of the Global Board of Directors of the Association of Executive Search & Leadership Consultants, the industry’s leading advocacy and education organization.
Alan earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Economics from The Pennsylvania State University and a Master of Business Administration degree in Finance from Temple University.
Nicholas DeMedio (“Nick”) joined Kaplan Partners with over 20 years of Executive Search, Talent Management and Human Resources experience. Prior to joining Kaplan Partners, Nick oversaw the retained executive search practice for a regional Human Resources consulting firm. In this role, Nick led a number of Chief Executive Officer and C-Level searches, working directly with Boards of Directors and Executive Management teams in all facets of senior level recruiting, executive compensation and talent consulting.
Nick previously served as a senior executive at Royal Bank America, a publicly traded community bank based in suburban Philadelphia. In this key leadership role, Nick managed both strategic and hands-on initiatives of the human resources department, including executive recruiting, the design and administration of the executive and staff compensation infrastructure, management of various employee benefit programs, executive on-boarding, talent management and succession planning.
Nick holds a Bachelor of Business of Administration with a concentration in Human Resources Management from Temple University, as well as the Senior Professional of Human Resources (“SPHR”) certification from the Society of Human Resources Management.
Karen KaneManaging Director
Karen specializes in the validation of candidate leadership skills in highly complex markets and has over two decades of success in executive search with both international and boutique firms. Her personal investment in the search process and deep integration into client culture and the project team results in an extremely high level of repeat client engagement.
Karen’s diverse CEO and C-Level search experience ranges from early-stage growth businesses to Fortune 500 companies across the banking and finance, manufacturing, healthcare, information technology, and telecommunications sectors. She has particular expertise in risk, audit, finance, credit, technology and compliance within financial services entities.
Karen earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Business Administration from DeSales University.
Dara KleinManaging Director
Dara is an industry leader in board and leadership succession in the banking and financial services industry. She leads community bank CEO search assignments with a specialized focus on client due diligence and candidate cultural assessment. Her trusted relationships with boards of directors and executive management ensure smooth candidate transitions into new leadership roles and corporate cultures.
Dara has over 25 years of business and management experience including work for Xerox Corporation, where she served as regional expert for Fortune 500 clients in the financial services, insurance, government, and technology industries. She also directed marketing communications and branding strategies for Integrion Financial Network in partnership with top national financial institutions.
Dara earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Marketing from The Pennsylvania State University
Bob BrownManaging Director
Bob joined Kaplan Partners in 2018 after a 39 year career with PricewaterhouseCoopers, including 28 as a Partner. During his career with PwC he provided the vision and leadership for, and directly managed, board-level client solutions across a range of industries. With Kaplan Partners Bob will focus his energies on the firm’s Board Advisory Services, and the CEO and Financial Officers Search Practice areas.
Bob was recently elected to the Board of Directors of County Savings Bank in Essington, PA. He also serves as Vice Chair of the Board of Trustees of Lehigh University, and as a board member of the Philadelphia Zoo. Bob was also recently recognized by the National Association of Corporate Directors (NACD) as a Governance Fellow, the highest standard of credentialing for directors and governance professionals. NACD Fellowship includes a comprehensive and continuous program of study that empowers Fellows with the latest insights, intelligence, and leading boardroom practices.
Bob earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from Lehigh University.
